What is the Emerging Leaders Program?

The Emerging Leaders Program is a leadership learning opportunity for undergraduate students. While open to all CUA students, the Emerging Leaders Program is intended to introduce new students to leadership opportunities in the CUA community. The format will include group discussions, workshops and interactive activities facilitated by members of the CUA community.

What will I learn?

  • What it means to be a servant leader
  • What kind of leader I am or likely to become
  • The importance of building consensus and working as a team
  • Why setting goals is so important
  • How I can get involved and become a leader at CUA
  • How I can be a leader and balance other commitments

How can I apply what I have learned from the program?

Service Project: The service project will engage students in the DC community, focusing on your role as an emerging leader, to be followed with a short reflection paper.

Interview Assignment: To deepen your understanding of leadership, you will have the opportunity to interview a student in a current leadership role (i.e. organization president, resident assistant, resident minister, student government executive board member, etc.).

Group Project: Identify a topic that is affecting the CUA community. Research the status, impact and relevance of this topic. Based on your findings, create specific, step-by-step recommendations to be shared with your peers.

When will the group meet?

Class will meet Thursday evenings beginning January 21 for an awesome selection of interactive workshops from 6:00-7:00pm. Participants are highly encouraged to attend all of the workshops in order to maximize on this great experience.
